Brunei Firemen Tops In S'pore

Begawan - Fresh from winning the 14th CD Skills Competition
in Singapore, the Fire and Rescue Department of Biunei yesterday
held a thanksgiving ceremony and a presentation of token of
appreciation to the participating senior officers, officer and fire
and rescue personnel at its headquarters in Old Airport.
The competition was participated by
SCDF's Disaster Assistance Rescue Team (DART) and elite rescue teams
from invited countries, namely Fire and Rescue Department Brunei,
National Committee for Disaster Management of Cambodia, Fire Service
Department of Hong Kong, Jakarta Fire Service (Indonesia), National
Disaster Management Office of Laos, Macau Fire Department, SMART
Malaysia, Relief and Resettlement Department of Myanmar, Bureau of
Fire Protection Philippines, Department of Disaster Prevention and
Mitigation of Thailand and Central Committee for Flood and Storm
Control of Vietnam.
The SCDF CD Skills Competition is
an annual event organised by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF),
where fire-fighters, rescuers and paramedics pit their operational
skills, fitness and teamwork in a battle of strength, endurance,
perseverance and wit in simulations based on actual scenarios.
According to Acting Senior
Superintendent, Ranee Hj Othman, Commending Officer of.Operation C,
the Brunei team of ABKS 206 Shamsol bin Idris, ABKS 308 Marhadi bin
Ahad, AB 760 Rescydy Bin Rosli, AB 754 Mohammad bin Zaraini and
leader ASO Yahya bin Hj Jali won all four event in the competition.
Event 1 called Unstoppable,
requires physical endurance such as chopping a wooden block and
breaking a hole in a concrete slab.
"Event 2 is Pinnacle which involves
height rescue and rappelling, Event 3 is Fortis to test the speed of
teams in donning fire-fighting gear and Event 4, Torque, which is a
