New Courses By Busiido

Bandar Seri Begawan - Martial arts not only allow a person to master the art of self-defence but also contributes to a healthy lifestyle and keeping youths away from social ills by engaging them in healthy activities.

Dr Hj Kamaruddin, Advisor of Busiido, the first martial arts dojo or training hall in Brunei, told the Bulletin that the reason behind the establishment of a Martial Art Dojo is to offer training lessons to the Bruneian community who have a keen interest in developing their martial arts skills and at the same time, generate local talents who can represent the Sultanate in the future.

"Martial art is a good way of keeping fit and it helps develop an individual's skills and techniques in self-defence. It is suitable for both males and females and at Busiido, we have everything for people of all ages," he told the Bulletin.

Busiido, which has only opened its door for business a few months ago, has already established itself as a centre where one can master the art of self-defence, trained by experienced local martial art instructors.

Members are able to obtain first class training facilities, be it advanced or beginners' classes, trained by instructors who are equipped with their own respective expertise in martial arts.

The Dojo recently introduced two new forms of martial arts - Taekwondo and Physiotherapy.

The Physiotherapy class is held every Monday from 8-9pm and every Thursday from 8.30 to 9.30pm, under the training of Lim, Busiido's new martial art instructor.

According to Lim, this new form of training fuses physiotherapy with Chinese traditional stretching techniques, suitable for people who are suffering from diabetes, migraine, and high-blood pressure and is also a good form of exercise for those suffering from mild stroke.

"It is more of a treatment than an exercise," said Lim, who had years of experience in this expertise.

Meanwhile, the Dojo holds Taekwondo classes every Thursday and Sunday from 7 to 8.30pm, led by Nick, a member of the Brunei National Team who has represented the country at both regional and international level.

Located in BT Complex in Berakas, Busiido Martial Arts Dojo also offers other forms of martial arts such as Karate, Kickboxing or Muay Thai, Boxing as well as Yoga. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
