Raise Awareness By James
Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan - To help raise awareness on environmental issues
among the local community, the French Bruneian Business Association
(FBBA) has presented copies of a four-minute video clip on the waste
pollution in Brunei Darussalam to various schools and Radio
Television Brunei at the French Embassy in the heart of the capital.
The video clip which contain
footage of pollution within Brunei Darussalam was aired at the
"World Water and Waste Management: an Environmental challenge for
Brunei Darussalam Forum" last February.
The schools that received the video
clips are St Georges School, St Andrew's School, International
School Brunei, Maktab Sains and Chung Hwa Middle School
On hand to
present the video clips was Mr Patrick Bonneville, the French
Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam in his capacity as the Patron of
FBBA.
Also at the ceremony were Mr Pierre
Imhof, the president of FBBA, Awg Haji Mohd Zakaria bin Haji Serudin,
the Director of Environment, Parks and Recreation and Haji Hamidon
Bin Hj Ibrahim, the Acting Director of RTB.
According to Mr Patrick Bonneville,
"The subject on environment is vast and encompasses a very broad
spectrum. From the highly successful environmental forum organised
by the FBBA and French Embassy with chief sponsor Total E&P Borneo
BV in cooperation with the Ministry of Development, we are now
taking a step further with the distribution of the video
presentation where we believe it matters for students, schools and
Brunei's community."
He continued, "Often, we hear the
saying 'all talk no action.' At the World Water and Waste
Management: an environmental challenge for Brunei Darussalam forum,
the video clip was shown to highlight the responsibility that the
community has - to keep Brunei clean and green. As a result of the
video clip, several schools have requested copies for screening in
the various schools in hope that it will result in an
'eco-conscious' Brunei as the community is made aware that everyone
is responsible for a cleaner and more beautiful Brunei Darussalam."
During the ceremony, Mr David
Taylor, the Director of ISB has suggested to set up an environmental
committee in cooperation with the Director of Environment, Parks and
Recreation in order to help overcome environmental issues. -- Courtesy of Borneo
