Conversion Ceremony In Kg Kilanas

Bandar Seri Begawan - His interest in Islam began when he was just a schoolboy and 30-year-old Mat Salim Chin, now known as Muhd Haidar Abdullah Chin, finally became a Muslim yesterday in Kg Kilanas.

Family members and friends gathered at the residence in Jalan Ban 1 and witnessed the conversion ceremony. Trained religious teacher Hj Musa Hj Mantok also offered some advice and revealed that some 400 people embrace the religion every year in Brunei.

Muhd Haidar, a member of the Fire and Rescue Department, hails from Temburong and is of Chinese descent.

Also present yesterday was Acting Assistant Director of the Fire and Rescue Department, Awang Hj Tengah, who presented the new convert with a souvenir. The event ended with a Dzikir Marhaban, as well as the sprinkling of scented flowers. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
