Bandar Seri
Begawan - A delegation from Transcu Ltd, a Singapore-based
biotechnology company, is exploring the possibility of partnering
with local investors in setting up a manufacturing plant and
distribution hub here.
At the invitation of the Brunei
Economic Development Board (BEDB), the delegation, led by its Chief
Executive Officer Akihiko Matsumura, gave a presentation yesterday
at iCentre on the firm's development of a system for noninvasive
delivery of medicine into the human body.
Transcu
Ltd has already engaged pharmaceuticals in the US and Europe and
expresses hopes of breaking into the Islamic market.
BEDB
Acting Chairman Dato Paduka Timothy Ong said, "The BEDB is
aggressively seeking to attract high value-added investments to
Brunei in line with our mission to create new opportunities for our
people.
"Brunei is the ideal platform for
exporting to the Muslim world," he said.
Toshimichi Ohyama, director
and executive director of business operations at Transcu, said
Transcu's system enables the delivery of therapeutic drugs into the
human body without the use of needles, effectively eradicating the
pain factor.
The system is customised to
efficiently deliver drugs for a wide variety of medical and cosmetic
applications, thus, replacing existing conventional methods such as
injections, oral administrations and patches.
With three granted patents and 288
filed patents in hand, the company has filed for another 32 new
patent applications this year.
Matsumura said the company will be
meeting with key personnel and local stakeholders.
The Transcu
delegation will be leaving the sultanate today.
