His Majesty Grants Audience To Envoys

Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to present three newly appointed envoys of Brunei with their letters of credentials.

The three new envoys were Datin Tan Bee Yong, Hj Sidek Ali and Johan Thani Hj Abdullah.

The letters of appointment that were presented to the new envoys were for Datin Tan Bee Yong as the Bruneian envoy to New Zealand, Hj Sidek Ali as the Bruneian envoy to India and Johan Thani Hj Abdullah as the Bruneian envoy to Laos.

The three new envoys were also granted separate audiences by His Majesty following their appointment as new Brunei envoys to the said countries.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Brunei and New Zealand in 1984, both countries have enjoyed warm and friendly relations.Bilateral cooperation between the two countries includes education, technical cooperation, trade and investment.

Brunei Darussalam then further established diplomatic relations with the Laos People's Democratic Republic in July 1993. In February 1997, Brunei Darussalam formally set up its mission in Vientiane and since then both countries have established cooperation, especially in educational and communication areas.

Meanwhile, diplomatic relations with India was established in 1984 and in February 1995 both countries were involved in setting up a Bilateral Joint Committee Meeting which was intended to promote closer bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Also in 1995, Brunei and India signed an air services agreement and an Agreement that set up a Telemetry Tracking and Telecommand Station in Brunei in 1997.

His Majesty also consented to grant audiences and received appointment letters of new three foreign envoys to Brunei yesterday; Peter Jonathan Ethasor Anegbeh from the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Abdelaziz Aboughosh from Palestine and Mohammad Yunos Farman who is the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
