10 Foreigners Issued With Special Passes
By Ahmed Shaheeb

Bandar Seri Begawan - Officers from the Department of Immigration and National Registration recently carried out an operation targeting food stalls, as well as a workshop and a house, within the Brunei-Muara District.

Seventeen officers were involved in the two-and-a-half-hour inspection codenamed "Ops Pintas 49/2008", which was spearheaded by the Acting Head Officer of Law Enforcement Unit, Department of Immigration and National Registration.

Officers issued special passes to 10 foreigners and slapped four local employers with summons. Three of the foreigners - a Filipino and two Indonesian - were taken in for questioning.

The department reminded the public that holders of social visit passes are not allowed to engage in any type of employment while in the country. If found guilty, they could be imprisoned for up to six months and fined up to $2,000.

Those with any information on any immigration offenders can call 3331879, 3341938, 2383555 or 2383777 during office hours. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
