By P Marilyn

Bandar Seri Begawan - The French Bruneian Business Association (FBBA) held an annual general meeting yesterday at Sheraton Utama Hotel in the capital to discuss upcoming activities in the country.

Chaired by FBBA President Pierre Imhof, the event began with a welcoming address by FBBA Honorary Patron and French Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Mr Patrick Bonneville.

Imhof, meanwhile, spoke of the growth of FBBA over the years in his speech.

He also urged the members to continue interacting with each other and hoped the meeting will continue to be held in the spirit of friendship.

He noted that there will not be any election this year as elections are held every two years, though member Sha7ali Sulaiman of KPMG was elected Honorary Auditor for FBBA.

Meanwhile, yesterday's meeting saw the report of activities in 2007 being presented by FBBA Secretary Tan Cheng Voon, and a financial report of the proceeding year by FBBA Treasurer Daniel Ng.

From March 2007 to March 2008, among the activities organised by FBBA were: a cocktail at the residence of the French ambassador, a luncheon talk on "Partnership between France and Asean: A Case Study for Brunei Darussalam" at Sheraton Utama Hotel, the arrival of French Frigate, a business talk on "Land Tenure in Brunei Darussalam", and an annual get-together attended by the Minister of Health.

Upcoming events from now until June 2008, as proposed by Imhof, include an investment talk by Jean-Marie Demange, Head of Economic Departments for Southeast Asia, French Embassy in Singapore. The-FBBA will also be hosting the 9th National Development Plan talk and an annual get-together with its members.

Speaking to the Bulletin, Shazali said the FBBA aims to develop bilateral relations between France and Brunei Darussalam while enhancing closer working ties and networking.

Meanwhile, Tan attributed the success of the association to the strong support of the French Embassy in the country.

The FBBA currently boasts 80 members, making it one of the biggest and most active associations in the country. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
