Landslides Caused By Continuous Rains
By Achong Tanjong

Bandar Seri Begawan - The recent continuous downpours have not only caused flashfloods in low-lying areas but also landslides.

A small road leading to Kg Sabun in Muara close to the junction to the Electrical Department, Muara branch, experienced a landslide mainly due to continuous heavy rains, a survey by the Bulletin showed.

Part of the road is closed to motorists, and is covered by canvas to stop it from further erosion. The police put up plastic cones to caution motorists on the danger.

Meanwhile, another landslide occurred at a residential area in Kg Tanah Jambu in the Brunei-Muara district. It caused the collapse of part of the concrete fence on a house's compound on a hill, just a stone's throw from the main road.

The continuous rains have badly affected the daily life of the residents in the rural areas of the Tutong District.

The worst hit area is Kg Kuala Ungar, Rambai, Panchong and Layong. Some areas are under 1.5 metres of water.

Government agencies are working around the clock to monitor the flood situation and provide help to affected residents. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
