Secondary Students Urged To Take
Up Science Stream
By Liza Mohd
Bandar Seri
Begawan - One of the concerns of the Ministry of Education is
the lack of students in Secondary Four and Five pursuing 'science
stream', said by STEP Centre Acting Chief Awg Hj Metali bin Hj
Mirasan, who was the chief guest at Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Ali
Students Award ceremony yesterday morning.
In his speech, he urged students to
participate in programmes or activities organised by STEP Centre
such as robotic competitions, Olympiad, seminars and student
exchange programmes among others. STEP was formed in 1999 with the
objective to promote science, mathematics, ICT and environmental
subjects.
He added that on April 21, six
students will leave for Shanghai to participate in the 8th Asian
Physics Olympiad from April 21 till 28. Two of them are SMSA
students, Awg Md Yazid bin Hj Md Yakup and Dyg Lap Lee Shen.
Meanwhile, school principal Cheong
Huat Joo in his welcoming address said that SMSA public examination
results showed an increase in passes for PMB examinations rising
from 57.4 per cent in 2005 to 62.07 per cent last year.
The school principal noted that the
success of students relies on the effort and commitment from the
school such as its teaching resources, motivation, observation and
attentiveness by respective parents or guardians towards the
development, progress and discipline of their children. It also
depends on the students' awareness and attitude towards values and
importance of knowledge. -- Courtesy of Borneo
