Dusun Man Embraces Islam

Begawan - A 70-year-old Dusun man, Tabong bin Tidom,
converted to Islam on Thurday night at the headquarters of the
National Development Party (NDP) in Limbaruh Hijau, Jerudong.
He chose Muhammad Tabong bin
Abdullah Lidom as his new Islamic name, as he uttered the religious
syahadah in the presence of Mohd Muizzuddin bin Haji Jaya and Haji
Mohd Ali bin Haji Sabli, officers at the Islamic Dakwah Centre,
Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Muhammad Tabong is a widower with
nine children.
Attending the conversion ceremony
were Yassin Mlandy, the President of NDP, and his deputy, Mainland
Morshidi Othman.
After his conversion, a Majlis
Berdikir was held. Muhammad Tabong received gas from the Islamic
Dakwah Centre and party members.
Muhammad Tabong, a member of NDP,
said that he been interested in to Islam ten years ago and wanted to
convert but did not know how. He was allegedly told to find his own
way.
Last Tuesday, he again voiced his
wish to Mahmud Morshi di Othman, who rushed to organise the
conversion ceremony.
"I have long believed that Islam is
the right religion for me. One of my children has already converted
to Islam. I am very happy that at last my wish to convert has been
fulfilled:' he told Weekend.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Dakwah
Centre said a total of 9,264 people throughout the country have
converted to Islam over the last 20 years, from 1985 to 2004.
Of the number, the Brunei-Muara
District recorded the highest at 4,114 converts, followed by the
Tutting District at 2,316, the Belait District at 2,204, and the
