Bandar Seri Begawan - A Dialogue session' between the Brunei Industrial Development Authority '(Bina) and the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Brunei (YEAR) was held at Bina's headquarters yesterday as a further' step towards boosting private and public sector cooperation in Brunei Darussalam.

The meeting was chaired by Hj Metassan Hj Abdul Salim, Acting Deputy Director of Bina. Among the attendees were representatives of relevant government departments as well as members of the association.

After an overview of the workings and functions of the different departments and divisions of Bina, the dialogue session with YEAB commenced, headed by the secretary of the association, Hjh Mazrina Hj Md Yusof.

The topics covered included discussions on programmes, incentives and support provided by the department for Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Brunei.

YEAB raised the issue of the need for local entrepreneurs to have access to information relating to policies, regulations, incentives and international trade agreements that may impact their businesses.

The dialogue also included a discussion on resources and support available for local entrepreneurs in the areas of financing through government schemes, capacity building and assistance in the development of local entrepreneurs to be competitive regionally and globally. The dialogue was concluded after both parties discussed the next step to be taken to increase private and public sector cooperation.

Hjh Mazrina said that YEAB members will be able to benefit significantly from this dialogue as it will allow them to identify areas where mutual cooperation can be pursued in the future.

YEAB, in its efforts to "provide its members with access to a network of entrepreneurial experience-and facilities to nurture an enterprising culture", acknowledged the dialogue to be a success.

It announced that the association has already made plans to hold similar dialogues with other relevant government ministries to develop better relationships in the near future.

With their slogan, "Driving the Future of the Nation", YEAB is a non-profit organisation, headed by its president, Lisa Dato Paduka Haji Ibrahim.
