Warning On Medicines

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Ministry of Health yesterday cautioned the public on two traditional medicines that contain harmful drugs.

The ministry said "Trebest Plus Capsules", traditionally used for energy, vitality and men's health, and "Han Palace 'Capsules" by Unifier Sdn Bhd in Malaysia that are traditionally used to improve health were found to contain Acetildenafil, Sildenafil analog, which is a drug used in the treatment of impotency that cann be harmful.

The report is based on the information exchange between the Drug Control Authorities of Asean countries. This drug can interact with other medicines resulting in serious adverse effects such as the lowering of blood pressure if used together with some anti-hypertension drugs.

Members of the public who have this product are advised by the ministry to surrender them to the Pharmacy Enforcement Section at Block 2G, 7th floor of Bandar Seri Begawan Health Centre in Jln Ong Sum Ping for disposal.

For further information on this matter, the public is advised to call the Pharmacy Enforcement Section at 2230036.

The Ministry reminded the public that it is an offence under the Poison Act 1956 to sell any product containing a substance controlled under the Poisons Act and the penalty for such an offence, upon conviction, is a fine of $8,000 or six months' imprisonment. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
