Launching Of Language Forum

Bandar Seri Begawan - Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Dato Dr Ustaz Hj Mohd Zain Hj Serudin, yesterday officiated the launching of the Premier Language Forum held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

The event was organised by the Language and Literature Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in conjunction with the 221 National Day celebration. The function began with a mass recital of al-Fatihah followed with a performance by the Language and Literature Bureau's choir.

The forum panel comprised Vice Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Dato Paduka Dr Hj Ismail Hj Duraman; Dato Dr Hj Hassan Ahmad, Chief Executive of Yayasan Karyawan Malaysia; and Dr Dendy Sugono, Head of Language Centre of the Republic of Indonesia.

Dato Paduka Dr Hj Ismail, a language figure in the country, has contributed much of his energy and time to the building and expansion of language.

Dato Dr Hj Hassan, well-known for his contribution in language, literature and publication in Malaysia, has often been invited to present working papers, conduct forums and officiate events relating to language, arts and publication due to his vast experience in these fields.

Dr Dendy Sugono from Indonesia has presented working papers and conducted forums relating to the Indonesian language and arts at national, regional and international levels.

A question and answer session was held after the forum, which ended with the presentation of Kamus Bahasa Melayu Nusantara. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
