Tsunami And Earthquakes Featured In Jakarta Summit

Jakarta – The two-day Asia-Africa Summit in Jakarta came to an end last night culminating with the signing of the declaration and joint statement on tsunami, earthquakes and other natural diseases.

His Majesty Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan of Brunei attended a dinner with other Asian and African leaders on Friday night at Istana Negara.

The dinner was hosted by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in honour of the heads of state and government representatives of countries to the Asia-Africa Summit 2005.

Accompanying His Majesty Sultan of Brunei was His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

An interesting element in the summit was that the meetings were just not confined to conference halls.

Leaders also discussed important issues of common interest.

His Majesty took this chance as well to meet informally his colleagues.

The summit also produced a key document in a declaration of the New Asia Africa Strategic Partnership that will be endorsed by the leaders in Bandung today.

The leaders attending the summit will travel to Bandung in West Java today for the historic commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the first Asia Africa Summit. -- Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
