Two Bruneians Injured In Thailand Airport Blast
By Azian Othman

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two Bruneians from Kg. Subok in the capital were among the scores of people who were injured in a bomb blast at the Hat Yai international airport in Thailand Sunday night.

They were identified as Ang Sik Chuan and Lim Tiong Hin who arrived at the airport from Bangkok by flight.

In a telephone interview yesterday, the two middle-aged men said they suffered light injuries to their arms and legs as a result of flying glass pieces from the airport's screen due to the impact of the blast.

"The incidence occurred at about 8.30pm (9.30pm Brunei time). We were about Five feet away from the airport's glass screen at the terminal building.

"We are okay now and can move already. We are here to perform prayers at our ancestor's grave. We will be back in about two to three days' time," Ang Sik Chuan said.

At least two people were reported killed and more than 70 were injured when three bombs exploded in the Songkhla province.

The blasts occurred at the Hat Yai airport, Carrefour shopping complex and the car park of the Green World Palace Hotel in Songkhla town.

Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said his government would not use force to retaliate against the perpetrators of bombings, and declined to specifically blame Islamic separatists for the blasts, foreign wires reported.

"Even though the attackers use violence, the government will maintain its peaceful measures," Thaksin told reporters in Bangkok.

But national police chief General Kowit Wattana said police believed the attacks were linked to the insurgency that has roiled the provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat.

"Police believe they were linked with militants in the those three provinces,"' he added.
