Malaysia's TV1 and TV2 back on
Brunei air in May
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Television viewers in Brunei
Darussalam will be able to watch once more channels 1 and 2 of Radio
Television Malaysia (RTM) when the upgrading work and the replacement
of the television transmitter at Bukit Mas in Limbang are completed
early next month.
For the past several weeks, Brunei
viewers were unable to tune in to Malaysia's TV1 and TV2. However
Kristal-Astro subscribers continued to be able to watch the two
channels uninterrupted.
An RTM spokesperson from the
Engineering Division told the Borneo Post that the present 2-kilowatt
Very High Frequency (VHF) transmitter at Bukit Mas in Limbang would be
replaced by a 5-kilowatt Ultra High Frequency (UHF).
The full transmission of the
5-kilowatt UHF channel 27 and 29 has been set to commence on May 1. A
trial run for the new system is expected to take place on April 18.
An engineer at the RTB's Centre
Apparatus Room said the interruption was caused by the shift to VHF on
channel 6 and 9 through its low power 1-kilowatt transmitter.
The temporary shift did not affect
viewers in Limbang but the viewers of RTM in Brunei Darussalam were
very much affected.
