Research on Brunei Malay dialect

Another academic book, a product of a
local senior university lecturer, was launched yesterday afternoon by
the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Dr Hj Ismail Hj
Duraman.
The book, Dialek Melayu Brunei Dalam
Salasilah Bahasa Melayu Purba (Brunei Malay Dialect in the Ancient
Malay Language Genealogy), was written by Dr Hj Jaludin bin Hj Chuchu
It was Dr Hj Jaludin's second book
after his first academic book, Morphology of Brunei Malay. was
published in 2002. Currently he is the deputy director of Academy of
Brunei Studies, UBD.
Both books were published by
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Publishers in Kuala Lumpur.
This latest effort has his research
into the various Malay dialects in Borneo Island he classified as
ancient Malay Language stock. In an interview, Dr Hj Jaludin said his
research on Brunei Malay dialect found similarities in Sambas dialect
in West Kalimantan, Berau dialect in East Kalimantan and variance of
Malay dialects from people residing in the Brunei Bay.
"The research was based upon
linguistic history approach to value the placing of Brunei Malay
Dialect in Ancient Malay Language Genealogy.
