BASE praised for their efforts
during AGM

The Brunei Association for Science
Education (BASE) recently held their Annual General Meeting. The
meeting was officiated by Pengiran Datin Paduka Hajah Mariam binti
Pengiran Haji Matarsat, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of
Education. In her keynote address, the Chief Guest was pleased to note
that BASE, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has been
organising numerous activities to promote Science and Technology
Education for students and teachers in the last 25 years.
The Ministry of Education, she
emphasised, highly appreciates the efforts and commitment of BASE in
their activities. She hopes that BASE will continue to play an active
role of supporting the Ministry of Education in its commitment to
improve the quality of Science and Technology Education through
seminars and workshops for teachers, as well as enrichment programmes
or out-of-school activities for students.
She stressed that Brunei Darussalam
needs a highly-developed, competent and flexible workforce for it to
be able to compete internationally and survive through the 21st
century. They need to develop in the workforce strong scientific,
mathematical and technical knowledge, skills and attitudes so that
they can cope with the technological changes in workplace and remain
productive throughout their working life.
Dr Azaharaini bin Haji Mohd Jamil,
BASE President, in his welcoming address mentioned that BASE members
have been busy with the preparation for the Silver Jubilee celebration
which will be held sometimes in October this year.
One of the events will be the Science
Week which will include activities such as science camp, young
meteorologists award, science inventions and science exhibitions.
BASE is also planning to organise
science teachers seminars/workshops to help upper primary teachers
with the knowledge and skills to implement the new upper primary
science curriculum. A committee will be established in cooperation
with the Ministry of Education to plan and implement the seminars and
workshops.
The meeting was attended by 70
members of the association.
