500 naked volunteers cram into
Selfridges' window
London - More
than 500 naked people crowded into a major London fashion store as
part of a live art exhibition.
The nude volunteers are part of the
latest live art installation by US artist, Spencer Tunick, at
Selfridges, London.
Mr Tunick's previous work in London
was at the opening of the Saatchi Gallery earlier this month, when 200
naked people posed outside County Hall.
The site specific installation in the
front window of Selfridges will be photographed by Mr Tunick and is
entitled Be Consumed.
Mr Tunick reportedly chose Selfridges
because it is devoted to supplying the clothes, cosmetics and everyday
paraphernalia that consumers crave.
Participants in the art work are all
over 18 and volunteered via the internet or phone, they have been
promised a print of Tunick's photograph in return for their time.
Mr Tunick's shots of naked people are
usually taken outside. In the past he has photographed up to 25,000
bodies in locations as diverse as the Antarctic to Australia.
The New York-based artist has been
documenting the live nude figure in public for more than 10 years and
aims to challenge views about nudity and privacy. -- Annanova News
