Foreigner Researchers Urged To
Coordinate With UBD
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Foreign researchers who wish to carry out research
activities in Brunei are urged to refer to Universiti Brunei
Darussalam (UBD) before conducting such intentions.
Permanent Secretary at the Prime
Minister's Office, Pengiran Haji Abdul Hamid issued this raised the
matter at the opening of the national workshop on research organised
by postgraduate studies and research office of UBD.
The Permanent Secretary said that His
Majesty's government has set up the Majlis Penyelidikan Brunei
Darussalam or the Brunei Darussalam Research Council, a body
responsible for providing basic and conditions of research in the
country.
Established in 1987, the council is
entrusted with the responsibility of conducting regulations to examine
and consider all applications, supervise research activity as well to
monitor on foreign researchers that they adhere to the regulations.
Pengiran Haji Abdul Hamid stressed
that the measures are imposed with the aim at preserving the national
heritage, be of benefit to the country, and not exploited at will by
irresponsible people.
As a secretariat to the council, it
is appropriate for would-be-researchers to refer to UBD in order to
understand the council's requirements prior to conducting any
research.
The council will also act as a
facilitator and not just as a regulator and it is hoped that the
council will not be seen as a deterrent to research on the country, he
said.
The two-day workshop is organised as
part of a series of activities by the postgraduate studies and
research office in encouraging and promoting research at U.B.D. in
particular and in Brunei in general.
The main target groups of the
workshop are the young members of U.B.D. academic community and other
tertiary institutions, research officers from government agencies and
the private sector as well as postgraduate students and other
interested individuals.
The objective of the workshop is to
expose them to the essential principles and knowledge related to the
design of research projects and the methodology of conducting
research. -- Courtesy of
