Pulau Muara Besar Eyed For Global
Port Hub
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Pulau Muara Besar will be developed into a
competitive global port hub next month.
The Brunei Economic Development Board
(BEDB) has engaged the services of the Halcrow Group to study the
possibility of developing the island.
Commenting on the agreement, Dato
Haji Yusof Hamid, BEDB Chairman, said that the initiative is in line
with the trust of the 8th National Development Plan and BEDB's efforts
to further diversify the country's economy.
The development is expected to
benefit from Pulau Muara Besar's strategic location and its proximity
to natural deep water.
The initiative is BEDB's two-pronged
strategy to kick start Brunei's economic diversification and create
employment opportunities for its people.
Work will begin next month and will
last for four months. The findings will then be presented to key
stakeholders sometime in September this year. -- Courtesy of
