Seminar on ‘Confident Brunei'

Prof Madya Dr Hj Hashim, the director of UBD's Academy of Brunei
Studies
The Academy of Brunei Studies (ABS)
of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) will be staging a seminar on
April 30 from 2.15 pm onward at its Central Lecture Theatre 1.17.
Members of the public are most welcomed to attend.
The director of the ABS, Prof Madya
Dr Hj Hashim bin Hj Abd Hamid will be delivering his working paper,
"Brunei Yakin: Antara Slogan dan Perubahan Struktur"
(Confident Brunei: Between Slogan and Structural Change). This will be
his 78th working paper, which he had presented at all levels of
conferences and seminars; international, regional and local.
The seminar is open to all, whereby
those present will receive a free copy of the working paper.
Prof Madya Dr Hj Hashim last
presented a working paper entitled "Malay Literature at Road
Junction" at the 42nd conference of the Language Council of
Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia (MABBIM) and the 8th
Southeast Asian Literature Council (MASTERA) held here last March.
Apart from delivering working papers,
Prof Madya Dr Hj Hashim has also written some six academic books -
Junjung Tinggi (1993), Riak Sastera Darussalam (1994), Cerucuk Budaya
Brunei (1999), Lanang Beladu Lanang: Pengantar dan Koleksi Pantun
Brunei (2001), Bicara Sastera Brunei (2002) and Islam di Brunei
Darussalam: Satu Analisis Sosio-Budaya (2003).
He is currently writing another
academic book entitled "Menyuruki Syair Rakis", which he
hopes would be completed by end of this year or early next year.
Being a lecturer specialising in
regional and local Malay culture, Prof Madya Dr Hj Hashim has always
been in constant demand to present working papers here and overseas.
Apart from an academician, Prof Madya
Dr Hj Hashim is also a literature activist, and is currently a member
of SEA Write Award judging committee, Brunei Literature Council (MASTERA),
Fukuoka ASEAN Japan Cultural Prizes and ASEAN Awards on Culture and
Information.
He is also the editorial advisor of
Pangsura Journal, a Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) publication
and is currently involved in a project entitled "Critical
Anthology of Poetry and Fiction in Southeast Asia" for the
University Western Australia in Perth.
