The Postgraduate Studies and Research
Office of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) has organised a National
Workshop on Research, which began yesterday. The opening ceremony of
the two-day workshop was attended by as many as 70 participants from
UBD, ITB and government ministries. The workshop aimed to 'target'
young members of UBD academic community and other tertiary
institutions, research officers from both public and private sector
and postgraduate students. Other interested individuals are most
welcomed to take part.
Organised by the Postgraduate Studies
and Research Office, the workshop was part of the many activities put
forward to encourage and promote more research at UBD and, in general,
around the nation.
Among the objectives of the Research
Workshop were to sensitise prospective researchers on the basic
approaches to research, to expose them to the essential principles and
knowledge related to the design of research projects and the
methodology of conducting research. It also hoped to direct their
(participant's) attention to necessary skills in communicating the
results of their research in the form of reports and other modes of
presentation.
"Through this workshop we hope
to be able to help forge close understanding, good rapport and active
networking among participants coming from different backgrounds, and
involved to different degrees in conducting research and in the
management of research activities, so that the development of
co-operative as well as joint and collaborative research ventures
would follow," explained Dr Hj Md Yusop Hj Awg Damit, the
Chairman of the Organising Committee for the National Workshop on
Research.
The workshop plans to invite
Professor Madya Dr Sharifah Norul Akmar Syed Zamri, a specialist from
Universiti Malaya to lead the workshop.
Towards the end of the opening
ceremony, the chairman presented a small gift of appreciation to the
guest of honour, Pg Hj Abd Hamid Pg Hj Md Yassin, the Permanent
Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office.
