By Rol Ezam
A father of six children who stole
jewellery at a flat in Kampong Beribi ten days ago was sentenced to 8
months' imprisonment by Senior Magistrate Radin Safiee Radin Mas
Basuini yesterday. Before passing the custodial sentence on Mohammad
Ashri Hj Pungut, 32, the Magistrate pointed out that the offence
committed by the defendant was a serious one.
"There is one case which remains
unsolved until now where a doctor was killed by intruders who went
into his house to commit theft," the Magistrate said.
According to the Deputy Public
Prosecutor Dk Hjh Hana Molina Pg Hj Mohammad, the defendant was
cycling from his house at No. 133 in Kampong Perpindahan Mata-Mata,
Jalan Laila Wijaya towards the flat.
After reaching the flat, the
defendant went to the first floor of the flat at room no. 3 with
intent to steal.
Since the room was unlocked, the
defendant immediately went inside the room and went upstairs to the
bedroom.
He then took eleven gold bracelets, 3
gold necklaces, 5 gold rings, a pair of gold 'scarf' pins, 2 gold
pins, 2 pairs of gold earrings, one gold earring and one gold locket
with a blue stone belonging to Sarina Ismail, which he found inside
the bedroom's drawers.
