The Sad State Of Brunei Malay
Contractors Revealed

Begawan - The shocking state of inactivity among Brunei Malay
contractors was revealed yesterday.
There are 1,745 registered
contractors with the Development Ministry. Out of which 83 per cent
are Brunei Malay outfits. But sadly only 10 percent of them are
currently active.
Pengiran Dato Haji Abu Bakar,
Development Ministry's Acting Permanent Secretary Administration and
Finance disclosing this has urged Malay entrepreneurs to improve
business management with updated strategies. They should also identify
new business sectors and the 'niche market'.
Improvement in negotiation skills and
cooperation between Malay entrepreneurs should also be encouraged.
He made the call at the 15th General
Meeting for Federation of Malay Entrepreneurs (PPPMB).
He noted that a specialised unit in
his ministry caters for training local Bumiputera contractors in the
construction and distribution industries.
He also expressed his relief that
over the years, the attitude of local businessmen had changed as they
now begun to attend and participate in such courses.
The PPPMB members also received their
certificates of appreciation for their contribution in developing the
management.
PPPMB is now 25 years, acts as the
platform for Malay entrepreneurs in mapping out proposals to train and
upgrade knowledge about business management.
It also serves as organiser for
meetings for Brunei Malay entrepreneurs to build better management
systems.
The 15th general meeting, held
yesterday, discussed the amendment of the association's management
board constitution and elected inew management committee for the next
five years.
