New KB penghulu appointed

Awg Hj Pungut bin Ali receives an appointment certificate from the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Dato Paduka Awg Hj Adanan

A ceremony to mark the appointment of a new Penghulu for Mukim Kuala Belait was held yesterday afternoon and was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Dato Paduka Awg Hj Adanan bin Pehin Datu Awg Hj Mohd Yusof. Awg Hj Pungut bin Ali, 60 who has been serving as the Ketua Kampong of Kuala Belait since 1993 was officially appointed as the new Penghulu, March 20 this year.

Among those present at the ceremony, the Belait District Officer, Awg Adanan bin Hanafiah, and the former Penghulu of Kuala Belait Pg Lela Utama Pg Hj Mohd Said bin Pg Ahmad.

During the ceremony, Awg Hj Pungut received an appointment certificate from Dato Paduka Hj Adanan, the chief guest, and proceeded to recite oath as the new Penghulu of Mukim Belait.

Dato Paduka Hj Adanan in his speech stated that the task of Penghulu is a meaningful one, which requires commitment, attention, full loyalty and responsibility towards the community which he would lead.

He stated that the appointment of Hj Pungut is a form of trust by His Majesty's Government which he should abide, and any form of problems, queries or complaints received from the people of Mukim Kuala Belait should be attend to and resolved with intelligence and politeness.

Dato Paduka Hj Adanan also expressed appreciation to the former Penghulu, who had held office since 1976 for a period of 26 years. He hoped that the former Penghulu would continue to provide positive advice to the newly appointed Penghulu and residents of Mukim Kuala Belait.
