Kampong Ayer Dwellers Warned: If House Is Shaky Move At Once

Bandar Seri Begawan - People in Kampong Ayer are advised to vacate their premises if there are any signs that their houses may collapse.

These may be due to three factors such as soil erosion, unstable foundations, and cracks in the stilts.

The advice came from the Fire Services Department, resulting from the incident in Kampong Pakilong, Muara, where a house collapsed three days ago.

Another house in the kampong owned by Dayang Arnah Binti Omar has experienced such situation.

After the inspection, Dayang Arnah and her family were advised to move out of their house where she lived for twenty-eight years.

They evacuated their house on Friday night.

The Commanding Officer of Marine Fire Services, Acting Superintendent Haji Awang Damit says it is not safe for families to stay in the house where it is deemed so by the local safety standards.

Dayang Arnah and her family are now staying with her son in Kampong Sungai Kebun.

The house is expected to be demolished as soon as possible which is very close to her neighbour house.

Authorities, such as the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport, the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation, the Brunei Muara District Office and Baitulmal Department have made plans to provide assistance to Dayang Arnah. Courtesy of Radio Television Brunei
