Sars Contact Case

Begawan - The Singaporean contact case of Sars Chia Soo Keng
that was first reported in Brunei, two days ago, has not shown any
signs or symptoms of the disease.
The Ministry of Health once again
reminded Brunei public not to be alarmed over the case of Chia who
broke quarantine in Singapore and flew to Brunei where he was speedily
traced and isolated.
He had gone to Singapore to attend
the funeral of his mother who died of Sars. Other members of his
family are also ill.
Chia's case caused a minor panic
among the public in Brunei however speedy action, which the Health
Ministry took calmed the situation down.
The Administrative Head of the
Outpatient Services at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS)
Hospital, Dr Hajah Maslina says that Chia is still under observation
at the RIPAS Hospital isolation ward.
Dr Hajah Maslina further clarified
the proper meaning of the term 'contact case'.
In the meantime, the Health Ministry
has stepped up surveillance measures of SARS.
Dr Hajah Maslina said that this
includes taking an aural temperature check of all incoming passengers
into Brunei International Airport.
At the same time, the Ministry of
Health advises the people in Brunei not to travel to SARS-infected
countries.
The Ministry adds that by monitoring
all incoming passengers from the SARS-infected countries will reduce
the risk of an outbreak of SARS in Brunei which is at the moment free
