Some 34 students of Amar Pahlawan
Primary School Brunei II were presented with Foundation Leadership
Prefect certificates at the school yesterday. Primary four to six
students were selected to be prefects. The guest of honour at the
ceremony was Hj Abdullah bin Hj Saidi, Senior Education Officer of
Brunei I & III districts, who presented the certificates to the
prefects. The two-day leadership course for prefects was implemented
by the school's Guidance, Counselling & Discipline committee. This
is the second time running that the school lad organised such a course
for its students.
Five spokespersons from the Dakwah
Centre and Counselling Unit were invited to attend the ceremony.
Awang Hj Abdullah pointed out that
the course could upgrade the students' leadership capability,
confidence, time management and strengthen their communication skills.
"This would help them become excellent role models to their
friends."
The issue on discipline and
misbehaviour cases of primary schools in the country, he said, has not
reached a "serious and critical matter". However, he added
that students having disciplinary problems are those that 'lack
communication' with their parents, friends, teacher and student
environment.
Meanwhile, Awang Mohd Azizan Abdullah
presented his speech entitled, "Diligent student searching a
pathway, Lazy student searching for a reason" while Dr. Ee Ah
Meng touched on the importance of time management.
