Forge Ahead

Awang Lim Jock Hoi
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The French Bruneian Business Association (FBBA) was
created to achieve greater trade and investment flows, local
businessmen and others heard today. That can be achieved through
closer cooperation in trade facilitation, solving regulatory issues
and greater understanding on mutual interests.
The French Ambassador Mr Thierry
Borja De Mozota highlighted this in a talk yesterday.
The talk entitled 'Economic
Integration of Asean' was presented by the Director General of
International Relations and Trade Development, Ministry of Industry
and Primary Resources, Awang Lim Jock Hoi.
In his talk, Awang Lim highlighted
the opportunities and challenges available to the private sector in
relation to initiatives or efforts undertaken by Asean member
countries to integrate their economies both internally and externally.
This was done through the Asean
Economic Dialogue Partners, he said.
These efforts include those under the
Asean Free Trade Area, the Asean Investment Area, the Asean Framework
Agreement on Services and the Asean Industrial Cooperation Scheme.
Meanwhile prior to the talk by Awang
Lim, the President of the F.B.B.A., Haji Kamaruddin bin Dato Haji
Talib commented that despite the economic setbacks, the F.B.B.A was
determined to forge ahead.
This will include an upcoming
exhibition and an oil and gas talk in Seria. -- Courtesy
