House Collapses In Kampong Ayer
By CT Hj Mahmod

Bandar Seri Begawan - A house in Kg Pekilong Muara crashed into the water, taking with it some of the valuable belongings, but fortunately at the time of the collapse there was no one at home.

The house came down with a thundering crash on April 23 that drew neighbours out of their houses.

Fifteen fire fighters from different fire service stations at Kg. Ayer rushed to the scene after receiving a call around 11 pm.

The house owner , 59-year-old retired civil servant Awg Hj Mohammad bin Hj Jaluddin, together with his family of 11 children and three grandchildren, at that time was temporarily living in a relative's place at Kg. Darat Saba B.

On April 23 around 10.30pm, the Village Chief Pekilong Muara, Mukim Peramu, Awg Hj Maraji bin Penglima Raja Dato Paduka Hj Mohiddin, and his family were watching television when they heard a loud crash.

Being a responsible village head, he called relevant authorities for assistance and to save valuable properties belonging to Awg Hj Mohammad.

The house was predicted to collapse due to its weak foundation upon an inspection made by Baitulmal some two weeks ago. Baitulmal had made plans to provide assistance towards the renovation of Awg Hj Mohammad's house.

After the inspection, Awg Hj Mohammad was advised to move out of the house where he lived for 13 years.
