It is important for the staff of a
company especially hotel staff to understand the preventive measures
and correct procedures of evacuating their guests in case of a fire
breakout in a building. A certificate presentation ceremony was held
yesterday morning at the Orchid Garden Hotel where 20 of its staff
proudly received their certificates from the Director of Fire Services
Department, Haji Awang Zaidi bin Haji Mohd Daud upon the completion of
a two-day course on 'Basic Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
Technique' held from April 2 at the Fire Services Training Centre in
Airport Lama.
Present as guest of honour for the
function was the Permanent Secretary of Home Affairs, Dato Paduka
Awang Haji Mohd Yusof bin Haji Mohd Hassan, who also presented the
certificates to all the participants of the two-day course.
General Manager of the hotel, Mr Mac
Thomson, who gave a speech on behalf of the hotel management, stressed
on the importance of fire safety knowledge among his staff so as to
ensure the safety of hotel guests and staff in life threatening
situations.
He also extended his gratitude to the
Fire Department personnel who trained the hotel staff during the
course.
Director of Fire Services Department,
Haji Awang Zaidi, in his speech congratulated all the participants and
those involved in the course for their determination and commitment.
He added that such courses organised
by the hotel are a positive step towards a better understanding on the
correct fire preventive measures and for the well being of its guests
and staff. Such course, he said, will help participants to familiarise
themselves with the different types of fire safety equipment found in
hotels so that they will be able to use them correctly, safely and
efficiently when needed.
Other than that he also mentioned
that his department would continue to provide its services to the
hotel such as holding fire drill exercises from time to time.
One of the participants, Mohd Iswandi
Maaruf, the hotel's Front Office Manager told the Bulletin that he had
gained a lot of information on fire prevention from the course. He
added that all the individuals who participated in the course would
pass on their knowledge gained from the course to their colleagues
during an in-house training on fire safety which will also be held
every three months.
