As part of its strategy in the
management of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, commonly known as
SARS, the Ministry of Health recently held a talk attended mostly by
nurses. The talk was held at the Lecture Theatre of RIPAS Hospital on
April 19. Facilitated by the Brunei Nurses Association (BNA), the talk
was officiated by its president and event organiser, Dr Hj Abdul Amit
Hj Musa. He stated that it was very important for the nurses to have a
clear understanding not only on the disease, but also the Ministry of
Health's policy, management strategy and contingency plan when dealing
with the SARS outbreak.
Dr Hjh Norhayati Hj Md Kassim from
the Department of Health Services also spoke on SARS issues including
health policies and the Ministry's plans in dealing with the outbreak.
Also present was Dr Pg Hj Hisamuddin Pg Dato Hj Badaruddin, who
answered questions from the nurses.
Participants at the talk expressed
their gratitude at such a timely seminar session, which helped
alleviate their fears and prepared them to handle the situation more
efficiently. One participant added that she now felt better to deal
with patient's queries about the SARS outbreak.
