By Rol Ezam

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 45-YEAR-old Brunei Permanent Resident was ordered to pay a hefty fine of $7,000 or seven months jail in default yesterday when he pleaded guilty to assisting in a 4D lottery last year.

Second offender, Teo Wan Hee admitted to gambling before Senior Magistrate Radin Safiee Radin Mas Basuini. He said that he committed the offence when he was unemployed because the company where he worked, Amedeo Development Corporation, collapsed.

Statement of facts said the defendant was caught near Simpang 476 in Kampong Sungai Akar while he was in the middle of writing 4D numbers on the front part of his Toyota Kijang, registration number BM 2792.

Following a body search on the defendant, the CID personnel from Police Headquarters Gadong found several betting slips, large sums of Brunei currency, RM15, two pieces of betting slip results and two small books containing 4D numbers.

The defendant and the seized items were then brought to BSB Central Police Station for investigation and the items were then sent to the Gaming Expert for evaluation, and it was confirmed that he was a punter.

He had a previous gambling conviction in 2001, the court heard.  (Courtesy Of Borneo Bulletin)
