By Zan Hosni
UBD's International Students Club on
their trip to Sungai Liang Forest. The International Students Club (ISC)
from Universiti Brunei Darussalam conducted field trips recently to
the Sungai Liang Forest and Oil and Gas Discovery Centre (OGDC) in
Seria. The student's club, comprising of students from all levels from
degree to diploma to exchange students as well as Master's students,
took time off from their studies to enjoy some of the beautiful sights
the nation has to offer.
As international students, they have
come not only to benefit from the sound knowledge Brunei's tertiary
education facilities has to offer, but also acknowledge the many
beauties and treasures that could be found in the country. Around 45
students turned up for the trip which was organised by the club's
executive committee, headed by the Vice cum Acting President - Ms
Karllen Xavier.
The club has also hosted a number of
activities in the past such as Sports Day, which took place last
October, and the International Gala Night, which was held last March.
For some students the visit to Sg Liang and the OGDC represented their
first time there and many found the trip interesting as well as
stimulating. The club boasts a number of students from more than 26
countries.
This field trip gave them an
opportunity to relax before starting revision for their exams, which
will begin early this May. For some final year students, this will be
their last semester in the university.
Ms Karllen Xavier, a final year
student from the Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies
stated some of the aims of the international students club. Among the
objectives was to primarily forge closer relations among international
students, including socialisation with Bruneian counterparts as well
as to seek improvement in international students' quality of life at
UBD.
