PR slapped with hefty fine for 4D offence
By Rol Ezam

A 45-year-old permanent resident was slapped with a hefty fine of $7,000 or 7 months imprisonment in default yesterday after he pleaded guilty to assisting in collecting 4D lottery tickets last year. Second offender, Teo Wan Hee admitted to doing so before Senior Magistrate Radin Safiee Radin Mas Basuini. He said that he committed the offence when he was unemployed after the company where he worked, Amedeo Development Corporation, collapsed.

As revealed in the statement of facts, the defendant was caught at the vicinity of Simpang 476 in Kampong Sungai Akar while he was in the middle of writing 4D numbers on the front part of his Toyota Kijang, registration number BM 2792.

Following a body search on the defendant, the CID personnel from Police Headquarters Gadong found several betting slips, large sums of Brunei currency, RM15, two pieces of betting slip results and two small books containing 4D numbers.

The defendant and the seized items were then brought to BSB Central Police Station for investigation purposes and the items were then sent to the Gaming Expert for evaluation, where it was confirmed that he was a punter.

He has a previous record of the same nature in 2001.
