Govt officials told to avoid trips to affected countries

Government officers and staff in Brunei Darussalam have been told to temporarily postpone their plans to go overseas either on official or unofficial business trips to countries and places that have been confirmed to have been affected by local transmission of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

However, those who find it absolutely necessary to travel to those affected areas should take precautionary measures to avoid being infected by the disease.

This reminder was stated in a circular issued by the Prime Minister's Office, RTB reported.

The head of the Health Promotion and Education Section, Department of Health Services, Dr Hjh Norhayati bin Hj Mohammad Hussein, set several guidelines for travellers - avoiding crowded places and building their immune system by ensuring that they get adequate rest, eating proper diet and exercise.

According to her, to date no SARS cases have been reported in the country. However, as a precautionary measure, the doctor highly recommended that the residents in the country observe strict personal hygiene at all times.
