Brunei Gears Up To Fight Sars
Attack

Begawan - Brunei is ready to meet the Sars menace sweeping the
region that has left more than 200 dead.
Brunei Ministry of Health has taken
several measures to fight against the possible outbreak of the Severe
Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Sars) in the sultanate, a ministry
spokesman said yesterday.
These include the readiness of
facilities and equipments.
The Health Ministry has been taking
action to set up a centre to screen Sars suspects. That includes
setting up of X-ray machine for detection of Sars.
The centre is located near the
Department of Accident and Emergency of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak
Hajah Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital in the capital.
The ministry has also assigned
doctors and nurses who are on a twelve-hour shift to examine any
patient suspected of Sars.
Meanwhile, the special unit has three
doctors selected from the Clinical Department.
The ministry has also prepared
facilities and equipments such as portable x-ray machines, ventilators
and special ambulances for treatment of suspected Sars patients.
The ministry has also equipped the
Isolation Unit of the RIPAS Hospital with facilities to treat patients
such as quarantine rooms.
These rooms come with their own
bathroom as well as a telephone. Other facilities include intensive
treatment with ventilators.
The ministry has also assured that
they have sufficient medical supplies accordance with the World Health
Organisation (WHO) guidelines. These include enough anti-viral
