Bandar Seri
Begawan - Visiting Miri Police Deputy Chief, Supt. Abang
Abdillah Dato Abg Othman, assured the safety of Bruneians holidaying
in Miri.
He added that a large number of
reported cases have been solved and that criminals have been
apprehended.
He urged the Bruneian visitors not to
hesitate to approach the Miri Police Headquarters for assistance,
stressing that the Miri Police and other relevant enforcement agencies
are continuously striving to safeguard the safety of Brunei visitors.
A delegation of nine senior officials
from Miri who are in the Sultanate for a three-day official visit,
yesterday visited the Brunei Muara District Office to exchange views
and discuss bilateral issues pertaining security and trade.
The delegation members gave a
briefing to Penghulus, village chiefs as well as senior officials from
the Brunei Muara District Office on the safety of visitors to Miri as
a confidence building measure.
Robert Koh, the President of the
Brunei Chinese Chambers of Commerce, during the briefing highlighted
the successful bilateral trade that Brunei and Miri have been enjoying
for the past 30 years. The exchange rate and close people-to-people
relations that Bruneians and Mirians enjoy have been among the many
factors contributing to the success but the high crime rate as well as
car thefts had resulted in a decrease in the number of Bruneian
visitors to Miri, he told the visiting delegation. (Courtesy
