Brunei Army Men Face Daring Gang
Robbery Charges

The Brunei
Magistrates Court yesterday ordered two Royal Brunei Armed Forces
soldiers allegedly turned armed robbers to be held in remand at the
Central Police Station.

Duraman agreed that the two who allegedly carried out three daring
gang style robberies in the Brunei capital to be detained until
investigations were completed. No plea was taken from the army men,
SLD 14603 Hj Abd Azis Hj Kadir and L/Cpl 13552 Mohd Ariffin Mohammad
in court yesterday. Both are due to appear again before the magistrate
on May 5 at 9 am after initial police investigations. The Police
Prosecutor yesterday asked for the soldiers to be remanded as they
were only caught on April 19 and applied for the case to be mentioned
again in two weeks' time.
According to the Prosecutor, police
while investigating both an identification parade will also be held.
She also said that the police suspect other members were involved in
this crime.
Both were charged with committing a
gang robbery using a knife on April 10 at about 11.20 am at Syarikat
Mohd Nirwan, No. 60 in Kg Pengkalan Batu near the Brunei-Sarawak
border. The two also faced a second charge of committing a gang
robbery using a knife on the same day at about 11.55 am at SPAJS
Minimart in Kg Kulapis not far from the first robbery. And the last
charge was for committing a similar style robbery on April 18 at about
4:10 pm at Seri Trading Mini Mart Simpang 220 in Kg Kapok, Jalan Muara.
Under section 398 of the Penal Code, Cap 22 the two could face
imprisonment of up to seven years and12 strokes of the rattan. (Courtesy
