Another term for BMEF president
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
The incumbent president of the Brunei
Malay Entrepreneurs Federation, Hj Abdul Latif Chuchu, is set to lead
the organisation for another five years, finding himself unchallenged
in the federation's election of new supreme committee members.
Nominations for the election were closed last Sunday. The federation
is set to elect new supreme committee members on April 27.
Hj Abdul Latif was nominated for the
federation's presidency and when nominations were closed last Sunday,
he found himself unchallenged by any members for the post.
When Hj Abdul Latif spoke about
retirement months ago, it was said that several members had set their
eyes on the presidency post. However, when he was nominated again,
interested members were said to have pull out from contesting the
presidency.
Other posts such as deputy president,
vice presidents, secretary general, deputy secretary general,
treasurer general, deputy treasurer general, secretaries and deputy
secretaries of various wings would be contested on April 27 at the
general meeting scheduled to be held at Sheraton Hotel in the capital.
Some posts would be strongly
contested. Members are required to pay fees and make voluntary
donations to the federation in order to qualify for nominations. Hj
Abdul Latif said initially he had intended to quit his post to give
new candidates a chance to lead the federation.
However, members rallied to
demonstrate their support for him to continue leading the organisation.
"They said I should continue and
finish the uncompleted projects of PPPMB. At first I felt the
federation needed a new leader to inject innovations as I readily
admit that I was not too successful in leading PPPMB in my first five
years," he said.
Hj Abdul Latif joined PPPMB in 1998
and won the presidency in the election of new committee members in the
same year. PPPMB holds an election once every five years. PPPMB is
also set to celebrate its silver jubilee this year when it turns 25
during the AGM on April 27.
Various activities would be held to
commemorate its silver jubilee including seminars, trade fair,
cultural performances and the presentation of PPPMB awards to various
entrepreneurs who are adjudged to be successful.
However, the silver jubilee
celebration would only commence after the federation's general meeting
on April 27.
