Repeat drug offender jailed

A 32-year-old local, second offender
under the Misuse of Drugs Act was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment
yesterday by Chief Magistrate Dk Rostaina Pg Hj Duraman after he
pleaded guilty to two charges of drug consumption. According to the
Narcotics Control Bureau Prosecuting Officer, Pg Othman Pg Hj Ali, the
defendant, Razami Hj Sapar was first sentenced to 3 years imprisonment
for consuming Methylamphetamine on May 27 last year.
He was also sentenced to 3 years in
jail for the same offence, for a crime which he committed in
contravention of section 6(b) of the MDA Chapter 27, on June 3 the
same year. However, the Chief Magistrate ordered for both sentences to
run concurrently with effect from yesterday, Pg Othman said.
The prosecutor further said that the
defendant was detained on July 6 last year by the NCB personnel from
the Supervision and Investigation Unit as his urine sample, taken on
May 27 and June 3 while he was still under supervision, was found to
contain a Class A controlled drug.
