Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei's remote district of jungle covered Temburong has come under attention of the Police, Immigration and the Religious raiding parties.

About 18 foreign workers were detained during a joint operation on illegal immigrants conducted by the Royal Brunei Police Force, the Enforcement Section of the Immigration Department and the Islamic Syariah Enforcement Department in the Temburong district on Saturday.

Those detained were Indonesians and Thais who were found working as construction workers in the district. A Thai national was caught for possessing drug and syabu consuming utensils.

The 18 foreign workers were taken to the police station for further investigation.

The operation began at 10.45 am and was completed at about 3.15am. It was aimed to monitor the number of foreign workers who are employed without work permits as a move to bring down the crime rate in the district.

The raid took place in several areas including the worker quarters of a sawmill and also the living quarters of foreign workers along Jalan Labu as well as those living at the quarries of Batang Duri.

ASP Sulaiman Aliddin, Assistant District Commanding Officer, headed the joint operation. Also involved were Awg Dollah Hj Ibrahim, the Senior Immigration Officer and Ampuan Hj Abu Bakar Ampuan Hj Taha from the Islamic Syariah Enforcement Department. (Courtesy Of Borneo Bulletin)
