More than 300 residents of Kg Kapok and its surrounding areas were present at the Kampong Kapok Family Day celebration, which was organised by the Majlis Perundingan Kampong Kapok (Kg Kapok Village Council) in association with Majlis Perundingan Mukim Serasa. The happy occasion was held yesterday at the Meragang Beach. It was organised, following a recent cleaning campaign at the same venue.

The inaugural event began with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah by Awg Hj Jalil Hj Putra and a welcoming speech from the chairman of the village council, Awg Hj Mohd Ali Abdul Rahman.

In his speech, Hj Mohd Ali said that it is hoped the event will bring solidarity among the villagers, with its multi-racial and culturally diverse community.

He was also proud that the Brunei Muara District Officer, Dato Paduka Hj Harun Hj Ismail, was in attendance as the guest of honour.

In turn, Dato Paduka Hj Harun said in his speech that functions like this will help build healthy and caring families.

The district officer also urged village heads to look after their villagers well, and to investigate any residents living in poverty, as to avoid any undesirable elements from arising.

He also urged the villagers to safeguard Meragang Beach as it is a place of pristine beauty and serenity.

A mass aerobic was also held and headed by the guest of honour. Soon after in a remarkable gesture, hundreds of hatchlings were released back to the sea. They were given by Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Rahman Hj Abdul Kahar, the advisor to Majlis Perundingan Mukim Serasa.

The ceremony then continued with lines of sporting activities, in which the guest of honour took part as one of the participants.
