‘Manangin Enam' launched
Stiff measures are being taken in
ensuring Brunei waters is secured from tresspassers and illegal
fishing, RTB reported. In ensuring that the security steps are being
adhered to, the authorities concerned launched "Manangin Enam"
yesterday morning.
The operation involved four
government agencies comprising the royal Brunei Police, the Royal
Brunei Armed Forces, and the National Security Department with the
Fisheries Department at the helm.
The whole operation was under the
supervision of the Acting Fisheries Licensing Senior Officer, Awang Hj
Ismail.
The operation was to remind fishermen
of the danger and risks involved in catching fish within the 500 metre
radious off limits at all Brunei Shell petroleum offshore platforms.
Offenders including foreign trawlers
caught contravening the regulations are liable to a heavy fine.
However, no arrests were made at the
surveillance yesterday morning.
