Stiff measures are being taken in ensuring Brunei waters is secured from tresspassers and illegal fishing, RTB reported. In ensuring that the security steps are being adhered to, the authorities concerned launched "Manangin Enam" yesterday morning.

The operation involved four government agencies comprising the royal Brunei Police, the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, and the National Security Department with the Fisheries Department at the helm.

The whole operation was under the supervision of the Acting Fisheries Licensing Senior Officer, Awang Hj Ismail.

The operation was to remind fishermen of the danger and risks involved in catching fish within the 500 metre radious off limits at all Brunei Shell petroleum offshore platforms.

Offenders including foreign trawlers caught contravening the regulations are liable to a heavy fine.

However, no arrests were made at the surveillance yesterday morning.
