Twelve Deaths On Brunei Roads In
Four Months Say Police
Bandar Seri
Begawan - There were nine road accidents and twelve deaths on
Brunei roads in the first four months this year. These figures were
needlessly high and there should be more caution by motorists.
Inspector Awang Salleh from the
Investigation and Traffic Branch of the Royal Brunei Police Force
mentioning this added the need for more safety and courtesy.
Using a mobile phone is an offence,
he said, which carries a fine of $1,000 or six months jail or both.
Second offender is liable for a fine
of $2,000 or 12 months in prison of both.
Inspector Salleh urged motorists
especially students to obey the traffic law and regulations.
The matter was raised during a
briefing session on Road Safety Awareness to secondary students in the
Brunei-Muara District yesterday.
Meanwhile an officer from the Land
Transport Department Awang Shaminan warned the students that driving
without a valid licence is a serious offence.
Those who commit such an offence is
liable to severe punishment. He also urged that students who reached
the age of 18-years-old to get a driving licence before driving.
Form 4 and 5 students of the Menglait
Secondary School attended the briefing and another traffic briefing
will be held for other secondary schools throughout the sultanate to
create awareness on traffic laws and regulations.
