Traditional nasi lemak at SugarBun
By Cedrina Norlaila A. Clark

Alexander (R) and James at SugarBun Restaurant in Sengkurong
SugarBun recently launched its
traditional 'nasi lemak' dish which is a very popular local cuisine in
many Southeast Asian countries including Brunei. Not only it is
considered as a complete meal, many Bruneians eat it for breakfast or
just as a mid-morning snack. There are several varieties of 'nasi
lemak' but the main dish of fragrant coconut rice remains unchanged.
However, the toppings or side dishes can be altered to suit the wishes
of consumers.
However, recently in all SugarBun
outlets throughout Brunei, one can eat 'nasi lemak' in style.
The SugarBun's traditional 'nasi
lemak' comes with the fragrant 'nasi' or rice cooked with fresh
coconut milk, served topped with sliced tomato and cucumber, fried
peanuts, 'sambal ikan bilis' or spicy anchovies, a half-boiled egg and
sambal shrimp paste which is also quite spicy. It is available at
$2.50.
The nasi lemak here is served on an
unbreakable platter with the pattern of green banana leaves that makes
the 'nasi lemak' feel traditionally tasty.
All of SugarBun's chicken is
slaughtered the 'halal' way, confirmed Alexander, the head of SugarBun
Restaurant in Sengkurong.
