talk
By Zan Hosni

Officers brief students on awareness of road safety
Sekolah Menengah Menglait held a
lecture that was conducted by the Road Safety Council yesterday
morning on their school premises. Around 280 of its students from Form
4 and 5 were briefed by two government departments, namely the Royal
Brunei Police Force and Land Transport Department.
The two departments were represented
by Sgt Hj Jair and Inspector Salleh from RBPF while Baha Hj Jamahat
and Shahminan Hj Tengah represented the Land Transport Department.
The talk on road safety education at
Sekolah Menengah Menglait was the first of its kind but there are
hopes of it becoming an annual project.
The Road Safety Council set forth
some of its objectives. The talks were held primarily to increase
understanding and promote awareness of road safety issues.
Among the many topics discussed by
the Road Safety Council were common causes of road accidents -
especially the use of short messaging system (SMS) while driving; road
safety laws and regulations; procedures relating to obtaining a
driver's license and other essential information every road user
should be made aware of.
