Bruneian's car window smashed in Miri
By Liza Mohd

The car whose glass window was brought down after it was smashed in Miri

A 49-year-old local woman was in for a shock, when her car window was allegedly smashed while she was shopping in Miri and her 24 -year-old daughter's handbag, which was lying in the car was also stolen. The woman from Kuala Belait said that she had left for Miri with her two daughters at about 9 am to do a little bit of shopping and drop in at a few shopping centres and at Muhibah stall.

While she was in Kenyalang Supermarket in the vicinity of Lutong, Miri she said that she had parked her car right at the entrance of the supermarket where it was raining heavily, she added.

Thinking that they were going to shop for only a while, her daughter then left her handbag containing RM50, passport and ATM cards at the back of the car.

After shopping, the victim then saw shattered glass at the back seat of the car and soon came to realise that there was a big hole in the window of the car.

The woman then assumed that someone had smashed her window in a desperate attempt to get the handbag.

Though the car was parked at the entrance of the supermarket, she did not hear sounds of people smashing her car window due to the noisy sound of heavy rain. She did not see anybody suspicious and stated that only supermarket workers were seen close by to her car.

The woman then lodged a report at the Lutong police station and her daughter who had lost her passport had managed to obtain clearance to be able to return to Brunei.

The woman estimated that the damage done on her glass window is estimated to cost over $1,000.

Members of the public are urged to take extra caution when travelling to Miri and not leave valuable items in the car such as passports, important documents or hand phones.

Valuable items may attract thieves, who in the process could damage the car at our expense. Locals are also urged to not be noticeable when carrying large sums of cash and are advised not to wear expensive jewellery, as there has been a case where motorcycle bandits pulled a necklace from a local woman.
